['blæk 'hɔːk; englisch »Schwarzer Falke«], eigentlich Black Sparrow Hawk, indianischer Name Ma-ka-tai-me-she-kia-kiak, Häuptling der Sauk-Indianer, * 1767, ✝ am Des Moines River (Iowa) 3. 10. 1838; kämpfte zusammen mit Tecumseh im britisch-amerikanischen Krieg von 1812-14 auf britischer Seite. Er widersetzte sich der Aneignung des Stammesgebietes durch amerikanische Siedler (Vertrag von 1804 über die Abtretung des östlich vom Mississippi gelegenen Landes) und führte 1832 die Sauk- und Fox-Indianer in Gefechten gegen amerikanische Truppen in Illinois, Iowa und Wisconsin (Black Hawk War). Nach Niederlagen seiner Krieger (v. a. am 2. 8. 1832 am Bad Axe River in Wisconsin, Massaker an den Indianern) geriet Black Hawk in Gefangenschaft (1834 Freilassung). 1834 wurden seine Lebenserinnerungen veröffentlicht.
